Changes to member states' media laws and their impact on government interference in the media should be monitored every year at EU level, says a draft resolution. MEPs also advocate broadening the scope of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive to ensure full respect for media freedom and pluralism.

The Economic Affairs Committee will vote on a mechanism to deal with banks in serious solvency difficulties. The aim is to prevent public money from being the first and only source of help.

As an input to the 22 May EU summit, MEPs will debate energy issues and tax evasion. In two resolutions they will urge EU member states to join forces to halve the €1 trillion uncollected "tax gap" by 2020.

The EU banking supervision mechanism, as agreed by lead MEP negotiators and the Council Presidency in late March, will be debated in plenary session but not voted. To allow more time for talks between the EP and the European Central Bank on accountability issues, the final vote will be postponed.

MEPs will approve new dates for the 2014 European elections. They will be held from 22 to 25 May, to give the new Parliament more time to prepare for the election of the European Commission President in July 2014.

The Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee will vote on a resolution on banking reform, which will give MEPs' input to the Commission's preparation of new laws that are set to seek far-reaching changes to how banks work. (Tuesday) The Committee will also discuss the EU banking union with Commissioner Barnier.
