Background - MEPs debate with Vittorio Gilli, Italian Minister of Economy and Finance EP Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.

European finance ministers are regularly invited to meetings of the economic affairs committee to discuss the crisis and their countries' economic policies.  Italy, the eurozone's third largest economy, is so far seen as weathering the storm as it has not been bailed out like Ireland, Portugal and Greece. This is despite a public debt of 126.1% of gross domestic product in mid 2012 and a deep recession.
