Background The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, visited today the European Parliament to discuss the latest developments in the Horn of Africa. He met with President Schulz and took part in the debate with members of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

Somalia is the most affected country within the Horn of Africa and it generates one of the highest numbers of refugees in the world. This situation makes some starving Somali farmers to turn into piracy. Another problem hitting the country is the fight against Al Shabaab, the Islamist militia. From the MEPs point of view, these situations will not change unless they are affronted with international security concerns.
